India Post will fill vacancies of:

• Branch Postmaster (BPM)
• Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
• Dak Sevak

Service Conditions (Important)

• GDS are not regular Central Government employees
• Governed by GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020
• Working hours: Minimum 4 hours – Maximum 5 hours per day
• Maximum age for engagement: 65 years
• Must have another source of income
• Mostly posted in rural areas

Job Profile of GDS Posts

? Branch Postmaster (BPM)

• Manage Branch Post Office & IPPB services
• Handle mail conveyance & delivery
• Promote postal & financial services
• Must arrange post office accommodation at own cost
• Mandatory residence in post village

? Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)

• Mail delivery & postal transactions
• Assist BPM in office operations
• IPPB services & CSC operations
• Residence within BO delivery jurisdiction required

? Dak Sevak

• Mail delivery & sorting
• RMS duties & office assistance
• Marketing & business procurement
• Residence within HO/SO jurisdiction

Salary / TRCA Pay Scale

?? Annual increment: 3%
?? Dearness Allowance applicable
?? GDS Gratuity & Service Discharge Benefit Scheme included

Eligibility Criteria for GDS Recruitment 2026

Age Limit (as on last date)

• Minimum: 18 years
• Maximum: 40 years

Age Relaxation

• SC/ST: 5 years
• OBC: 3 years
• PwBD: 10–15 years (as applicable)
• EWS: No age relaxation

Educational Qualification

• 10th Pass (Secondary School Examination)
• Passing marks in Mathematics & English
• Studied local language up to Class 10

Special local language provisions apply for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa & Sikkim.

Other Requirements

• Basic computer knowledge
• Knowledge of cycling
• Adequate means of livelihood

Selection Process – India Post GDS 2026

• Selection based on 10th class merit
• No written exam / interview
• Marks calculated up to 4 decimal accuracy
• Grade to mark conversion done by system
• Tie-breaking based on age, category & gender priority

• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)
• EWS
• PwBD

Certificates must be produced during document verification in prescribed format.
